The World's Oldest Hippo Lives Here! (And You Need to See Him)

📍Homosassa, FL - Nestled just North of Tampa, along the western shores of Florida. lies the beautiful area known as the Nature Coast. The Nature Coast has hundreds of the most gorgeous, naturally preserved, acres of coastline in the country. And sprinkled along the coast are little hometowns, like Homosassa, the one we call home. #Home_osassa

Homosassa is known for its lush canal systems and crystal, clear blue spring waters. People also flock to Homosassa in the early winter to catch the manatees coming closer to shore for warmer waters. The Homosassa Wildlife State Park was the perfect spot to capture the natural beauty of what the sanctuary had to offer.

And WOW- there was no disappointment! Sean and I couldn't have been more impressed with the upkeep (even after THREE hurricanes), and the wonderful displays of animals for us to see and engage. From pelicans to manatees, black bear to bald eagle, there was no shortage of things to see. Everyone's favorite, Lou, the world's oldest hippopotamus, was munching away on his 5th lunch, when we stopped by to say hi. Luckily, his tail was not swinging, so we were safe from the "splatter zone". (In other words, Lou's "poo" has a long reach......EWW)

Wandering through the trails, listening to the wildlife and soaking in the nature of the park was exhilarating. And the park is only 4 miles from our home. We found such a treasure just around the corner!
